I had never heard of you until after your death. Now I know you were the best comedian alive. Wish you were still around, my friend.

What a talent. What a guy, or shall I say so many guys - all the characters he played, who made us laugh. I can't believe it has been almost two years and every time I watch SNL, PHIL your spirit is still there. Miss ya
We will all miss Phil Hartman. The Simpsons, Newsradio, and SNL will never be the same again.

Phil had class and old-world charm. There was a natural ease to his acting of comedic roles. He had a multitude of charaters within him, and yet each persona still had some unmistakable trace of his warmth and personality. I remember the personable and relaxing interviews he gave on The Late Show with Tom Snyder. All the callers were very excited about him. Phil talked about his earlier work as an artist for rock album covers such as Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. He drew the cover to America's Greatest Hits album. Phil was something else and a little bit of light left the world after him...
What else can I say, "I'm just a caveman." A true comic genuis, his brand of comedy will never be duplicated, and will remain legendary forever. Sadly missed in Providence, RI.
Crique!!! Has it really been almost 2 years? Am I the only person here who now divides their life into 2 sections- "Before 5/28/98" and "After 5/28/98"? Man... 2 years... come to think of it, 2 years really doesn't seem like a long time anymore...
I have only come to know the late actor Phil Hartman from re-runs of News Radio on a late night channel here in Oklahoma City. He was a comedy genius and the tragedy of his untimely death just reminds us all how fragile life is! Phil - your comedy lives on!
My sadness over this man's death has only deepened as the years have passed. Phil Hartman was a man the world could not afford to lose. I miss you, Phil.
We were saddened to discover that "Bill McNeal" had truly passed away. Our best wishes for his family and hopes that the future will be brighter for them. God Bless...
I believe that Phil's uniqueness came from the fact that he seemed to be not of his time, but of all times. He would not have been out of place in a Fred Astaire picture, a Marx Brothers picture, even a gritty film noir Bogart piece. His comedy was so original, inspired, confident and sophisticated, while never afraid to be silly or goofy. (Bill's blustering misinterpretation of history was a highlight of "Newsradio.") He was the constant, steady, reliable joy of Saturday Night Live and his hosting guest spots were unforgettable. ("Who am I? Who is Phil Hartman?" and who could forget his Charlton Heston advising Norm MacDonald's Bob Dole). On "The Simpsons" he brought terrific material even more with obvious delight. ("You ran over the judge's dog?" "Replace the word "dog" with "son" and "kind of" with "repeatedly." "I hate every ape I see from chimpan-A to chimpanzee.") I love you, Phil and you still bring me constant joy and a hell of a lot of laughs, you magnificent bastard. We are honoured to have lived in his time. My heart goes out to his children. John Lennon... Phil Hartman. Come on guys, get rid of the guns. You finally made a monkey out of me. Love you, man. April, 2000. Melbourne, Australia.
You spent your life practicing the greatest profession; making people laugh. I commend you.

I miss Phil a lot too. Newsradio was never the same without him. Neither was The Simpsons. Needless to say, he practically stole the show on Newsradio. Do you guys remember that episode where he is being stalked by a santa claus who gives him a demo tape at the end? And at the end while driving home, he plays the tape and discovers his brakes have been sabotaged. The tape says something like "Merry Christmas... dead man!! Hahaha!" Man... that was really funny but at the same time, it was extremely sad to watch cuz I knew he was really gone. It's so sad... well, rest in peace Phil. Good times... good times...
Dear dear Phil simply captured my attention without having to mention any of the characters he made famous. He exuded grace and confidence while giving performances which translated into welcoming other potential actors on board the acting wagon. Ever since the first listen and glimpse of him on screen, I've dabbled into the field of acting myself. Bravo Phil!
Phil. What can be more said. I mourn the loss of this great man almost every day. I was at work when I heard he was killed and I collapsed to the floor. My heart almost felt as if it had stopped beating. I didn't personally know him, but I truly admired this great human being. He made me laugh. He brought a little joy to an otherwise rotting world, the world that took him away from future generations. I grew up watching him on SNL, PeeWee's playhouse and various movies. Thank the heavens for video, now my children can view this great wonder. And they do. They enjoy him in The Simpson reruns and in two of their favorite movies: "Jingle All The Way" and "Small Soldiers." It took me nearly 18 months to be able to watch his past work without breaking down into tears. Such tragedy. I look at my babies and it makes me want to love life more and do whatever it takes to make my life right for them. I give my sympathies to Brynn's soul and her family. Whatever was torturing her spirit to make it feel condemned into doing this tragic act, I hope it has left you. You will be greatly missed, Phil. Love.
As a longtime fan of SNL, Phil Hartman still remains one of my favorite cast members. He wasn't a spastic fat guy (the late great Chris Farley has that honor) nor the off the wall goofiness (Adam Sandler) nor the biting sarcasm (David Spade). Instead, Phil Hartman was an original who knew how to make people laugh with his incredible list of celebrity impersonations and voices. I've recently been doing research on the Groundlings comedy troupe and I hope one day to follow in Phil's footsteps. In horrible movies, Phil was the only reason to watch the film because he made you laugh. He was a genuine actor because he had the right sense of timing for comedy. "Newsradio" was just another show that showcased Phil's brilliance as the incredibly arrogant but always loving Bill McNeal. I hope to follow in his footsteps.
I didn't really turn into a die-hard Phil fan until I started watching NewsRadio, a show which quickly captured my loyalty... So much that I wrote FOX25 about 9 letters when they removed its primetime spots for a few months. Phil Hartman was, without a doubt, one of the funniest and ingenious comedians I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Within the last couple of years, myself and a few friends have been making amateur films, most of which are based on my own comedy writing. One of my most popular and funnest characters was molded after hours upon hours of studying a master. That master would come to be my mentor, my idol, my hero. Bless you Phil, and thank you helping me build a part of myself that I hope will help make other people as happy as you made me. I'm sure that wherever you are, those around you are definitely laughing. SALUT!
Does anyone else remember the anal retentive carpenter sketch? Great stuff! Phil nailed that one.

Phil Hartman is the reason I started to take acting in the first place. The man was... is my hero. He always struck me as the type of person who could do, and did, whatever he wanted. For that he will always be my hero.
I remember being about 12 or so when I saw Houseguest. The scene where Phil is in the office singing "Brick House" was the funniest thing to me back then. I was a fan from that moment on. I loved him on SNL and Newsradio and think that he is one of the greatest funny men of our time. He will be missed.
You are one of the greatest comedic talents the world has ever known. You inspire me. When I have kids I will tell them of you like my parents told me about the greats of their time. Thank you for all the laughter - past, present and future.
I know I cried the day I found out Phil Hartman died. From his days on Pee Wee's Playhouse thru SNL, Simpsons, and Newsradio, I've been a big fan. What a great loss.

We ask ourselves how one person can make a difference in so many lives. Phil Hartman was a great, funny man, and no one can ever replace him. We can only pay tribute to this legend who we laughed with and at. We will truly miss Phil.
Phil, you were the most admirable and possibly the funniest man I have ever seen. Everyone misses you and the humor you brought into their lives, and I look forward to one day meeting you in heaven, where you will make me laugh.

He added so much character to NewsRadio. Listening to Bill's outlooks distracted me from Phil's tragic end. He will be one of my favorite comedians of all time.
To Phil: You once made us laugh, with you gone all we can do is cry and try to go on. When someone you love dies, sometimes even the good memories can be unbearable. We will all get to see you again someday. You said "Goodbye my friend, goodbye," I say to you "Go rest high on that mountain, friend, go rest high." Thank You and Prayers to all.
I just recently discovered News Radio and love it so much. Phil was my favorite and I watched just to see him. I saw the episode after his death and was heartbroken. I could not stop wondering why they took him off the show. When I came to this web site and heard the what had happened I just wanted to cry. I will truly miss him and his many characters. I will never forget him. I pray for all of you that were close to him. No one will never replace the Bill McNeal who we all love. Rest in peace Phil. Sincerely, Your biggest fan, Kalan M. Sandberg

May he rest in peace. He was a funny man and seemed like a nice one too. Sad things happen to good people.
Phil Hartman was such a happy guy! Every Mon-Fri I get to watch the reruns and am currently working on recording every one so that when I have children I can let them watch this great actor who changed all our lives in one way or another. I think the saddest thing about his death must be the way his co-workers on "NewsRadio" and those who knew him well must feel. He's a great man and I hope he is remembered forever!

One of the greatest actors of this century has left his image on the television screen with his acting powers. Lord give strength to his children.
I was in Illinois when I heard of Phil Hartman's tragic death. I will never forget the many years that I had his humor in my life. God bless you, Phil, wherever you are.
Phil was a true inspiration to me. Ever since I first tried to impersonate Troy McClure from The Simpsons, or the first time I saw him dress up as Bill Clinton, he had me in stiches. It is now my dream to be an actor/comedian, and to appear on SNL, and I owe it to this wonderful man. I know that you're cracking up the angels in heaven Phil, and there will always be a smile on my face when I think about you.

It was the last day of school and that night I spent the night with a good friend of mine. Well, the next day I came back and turned on the television and the headline read "Comedian Phil Hartman dies at the age of 50." I was crushed, I actually fell to the floor. And I cried, cried my eyes out and that day I was supposed to meet my father to go to a theme park in Kentucky and have one of the greatest days of my life, but it wasn't, I truly miss Phil and all of his work. I think that the Newsradio episode of Phil's death truly captured his presence, and gave him a loyal tribute. WE MISS YOU PHIL!! Your Fan, De

When nobody on earth could make me laugh... Phil could. May you be with God forever.
I think Phil Hartman was one of the funiest men on television. NewsRadio was/is my favorite work of his. The show was just never the same after he passed. At least I have 16 hours of it to remember him by
I first fell in love with Phil on Saturday Night Live. I think his sketches of a drunken Ted Kennedy were my favorite. In all truth though he always got a laugh. His dead pan humor and killer comedic timing made him a true classic who is sorely missed. One night I was watching Saturday Night Live and they did a tribute show to Phil and Chris Farley together. I have never experienced bittersweet till then. I literally laughed and sobbed at the same time and was overcome with grief. Phil I know you are upstairs making them laugh still, you finally got the audience you deserve.
I discovered Newsradio about a year ago. I was going through some tough times and if it wasn't for the show my days would have ended with sad thoughts in my head. But I looked forward to seeing Bill on the show so much that I always went to bed with a big grin on my face. Even if I was too tired to watch Newsradio, I could not turn off the TV. It has become like an obsession to see Phil perform or I can't go to sleep. Eventually I became suspicous as to why there were so many reruns and it wasn't until a year later when my sister in law told me about his death. I wished now that I had never found out, because at least I could have pretended in my mind that he was still alive and just left the show. Being devastated about the news I became very upset and everytime I saw his beautiful face something came over me, that I wished I did not know about the way he had been killed. Even now I prefer to see his reruns and get my dose of Phil than not to see anything of him at all. He has become my daily dose of calmness. I love you and can think of a lot more people who should have gone instead of you.
I just got finished watching the "Bill Moves On" episode of Newradio for the fourth time, and it brought me to tears for yet a fourth time. There have been few other celebrity deaths that have been quite as devestating and as sad as his. It really is a shame, but he is in a much better place now. So long, Phil! And kudos. Rhett
It was just recently that I knew about Mr. Hartman's death. And it's sad to lose someone who could make everybody laugh. He may not be big here in the Philippines as a good comedian but I believe that I'm not alone on admiring such a great talent. For me he still lives on in our happy memories watching his works like jingle all the way, greedy, small soldiers, the simpson's etc. May his soul rest in peace...
I became a very religious Newsradio watcher about a year ago... I have practically memorized each episode. I grew to love Phil Hartman's acting and personality, and when I heard what happened, I nearly had a heart attack!!! GOD BLESS YOU PHILIP! SALUT! -william manning, your #1 fan!!
My husband and I watch re - runs of SNL just to see Phil. What a wonderful talent he was and how heartbreaking it is to know that we will never see him again . We hope that hs children are doing ok , and that they know their father was a great man. Our best to his friends and family.
I cried when Mr Hartman died. I cried for myself as well as for those two angels of his who lost both of their parents. Though I never knew him personally, it was a very sad time. He had such a big heart, and is still a truly enchanting actor. Though he is no longer here physically, he is sure to forever live in the hearts of his fans. God rest him. Thank you for creating this site, it is a wonderful tribute to the late, great comic genius.
I wish that, in some way, You'd known how happy you made me, and how happy you will make my sons and grandsons. I'm only 27, but I swear that your memory will live forever in my house...
Phil, Your dead-pan facial expressions were the sign of a real pro. It was so unfortunate for you and your children that you were deprived of more time. I thank you for the laughter.
Phil Hartman was amazing. When he walked on stage he held everyone in the palm of his hand with his comic ability. He was briliant and hilarious. Phil, we all love you and miss you more than words can describe.

Wherever you are... thank you Phil, for the years of fabulous entertainment, for sharing yourself with us, for making us laugh, for letting us in on the joke. You are sadly missed, thank you for leaving us such great memories!
Man, I'm STILL not over the loss of this incredibly talented man! Everytime I hear his voice or see his face on T.V. I get depressed... his death hit me every bit as hard as that of John Lennon. Phil was just beginning. He was going to be so HUGE... everyone knew this... God, what are we missing? The world is a much drearier place without Phil Hartman in it. Phil, from reading this guestbook I'm happy to tell you that the "word on the street" is that you will never be forgotten!
Phil Hartman was an incredible man who made everybody laugh. And I daresay... he could make God laugh. He was an incredible man who will sorely missed. His humor could brighten my day anytime I was feeling down.

I will remember him for such characters as 'Lionel Hutz, Attorney at Law' and 'Troy McClure'. Saw the movie 'Greed' last night in which he played a greedy relative of the rich Uncle Joe. He was great - he made people laugh - we haven't got enough of him left in this world.
I don't think I've ever been so upset about the passing of someone I'd never even met! A very funny and clever guy who will be greatly missed. One of a kind.

Phil Hartman was a brilliant comic mind. Even after his death, he will live on through the characters he played.

it is sad to think that the death of a person who one doesn't really knows can cause such extreme emotions. Phil could always make me laugh and still can. and now the thought that he will no longer create makes me sad. so to you and your characters i offer thanks. THANK YOU!
Phil Hartman was an incredible person and a hilarious entertainer. I am so sorry that things ended the way they did with him. He was such a good guy. Watching SNL reruns on Comedy Central allows me to appreciate the comic genius Hartman was. I recommend everyone to check out the 1995 film "Houseguest" too. Phil and Sinbad are so funny on screen and the result is one of the most hilarious films of recent years.
Phil Hartman was more than a comical genius, he was a god. He touched me in a way that not many people can. He always had something funny to say. "I salute you, sir." -Steen

Every time I watch the Chris Farley SNL tribute, the final scene with Phil singin' the "goodbye" song always gets me teary-eyed... Phil Hartman, may your soul rest in peace...
Whenever I'm down and blue, there's one SNL sketch I always think about. It's the one hosted by the woman in the crying game - the scene where Phil is the actor - who ate the bay scallops and said IT'S FOBODY'S NAULT!!! Thank you Mr. Hartman - you can always put a smile on my face...

I was cleaning up my locker at the end of the school year and one of my teachers mentioned that "someone from Saturday Night Live had been killed." I was crushed to find out it was Phil Hartman. I had not been a fan of SNL for a long time, but it was him who pulled me into it. God Bless you, Phil. Be Happy.
When a friend told me that P.H. was dead I just couldn´t believe him, but a week ago I saw the memorial chapter in NewsRadio, and it touched me because I will remember him as one of the best comedians ever. My trbute: the joy that he makes me feel in every one of his performances. Goodbye Phil... and Thank You.

Phil Hartman was a great guy, and very funny in his many movies and on S.N.L. I will miss seeing him in the future.
The first time I remember seeing Mr. Hartman was as Captain Carl in Pee Wee Herman's HBO special years ago. I though he was great there and in everything else in which I saw him appear. He brought a certain level of class to everything he touched. I miss him everytime I watch the Simpsons, or Newsradio, or old SNL reruns. One of the most shocking losses I can think of...
Although it's been over a year since Phil's tragic death, we all still miss him very much. His death left imprints on all our lives. Phil- if you're out there, we love you.
I feel the same as everything on this page. I mourn so much at his death that it is as if I knew him. I wish I had written to him, but I never got the chance to. I wish I could have met him and sometimes I wonder what it would be like if he were still alive. A world full of laughs.
When I heard the news over the radio that morning, I was in complete shock. I still to this day can't believe a man with such amazing presence, talent, and kindness could be taken from this world in such a way. His time was most certainly not up, but it seems that this is usually the case with the people who make us smile, laugh, and applaud with unrestrained emotion.
this has to be the most amazing guestbok i've ever seen... there are so may people out there who are just insanely in love with Phil Hartman... and with such good reason. there truly are NO WORDS that can convey to anyone who hasn't seen him, how amazing he was. all of us, despite the fact that he's no longer around... we should all be so grateful that we laughed at the hands of this man... this really great, beautiful, funny man.

Phil Hartman was the greatest cast member ever and a huge inspiration to me. I hope to one day be on SNL imparting all he taught me of sketch comedy. Thanks, Phil.
Phil Hartman still makes me laugh to this day. He will live on through his work. I miss him, but I know that no matter where Phil is, he is making someone laugh. I wish he was still around. Rest in Peace. Condolences to his family and friends.
It came as a shock to all. When Phil passed on, a bit of all SNL fans went with him just as it did with John Belushi, Gilda Radner, and Chris Farley. Still today almost 2 years after his passing I have trouble grasping the fact that Phil is gone. If I could go back in time I would have stayed up that extra hour to see him do the anal retentive guy. I'm going to miss him. I'll never get over it. Thanks for the laughs, Phil. Rest in peace.~~Patrick~~
I knew you died for a while and I wanted to know more about how and why? I only really cried at my dads funeral. But I had a tear for you too. Sometimes when I think hard about it, I still get choked up, because your films and voices really, really cracked me up. I'm at my happiest when I'm laughing. Thats why your death upset me so much. I have 17 three hr. tapes of the Simpsons that my girlfriend and me watch and it always makes a bad day alot better. Bye Phil, and thank you. Bryan

The day Phil Hartman died was like when Elvis died, you remember where you were when you heard the news of his death. I was so saddened like I knew him personally. I guess because he was taken from us in such a sad, tragic way, and he didn't have a chance to fight for his life which was even more tragic. Phil looked like such a caring father, and a loving father. He was such a good person (it seemed) and it showed through his acting and comedy sketches, to touch so many people so profoundly. I miss his talent, his smile, and the way it made me feel to laugh at his God-given talent. Phil rest in peace, make the angels laugh! You are really missed!
Such a tragic thing that Phil's life was taken from him. He was my favorite actor (and still is), as well as my hero. I watch NewsRadio every night, cherishing the episodes he was in. Not a Simpsons episode goes by where I don't hear (or at least think about) what wonderful voicework he contributed to the series. Kudos to you, Phil, and kudos again.

There have only been a few entertainers who have touched so many lives in such a relatively short time in a very positive way. Phil Hartman was, and is, truly a phenomenon. He has affected at least a generation and possibly will continue to impress for many, many years to come. His warmth and good humor shine in his work. We are much deprived without his talent.
Phil Hartman was a truly amazing person, not to mention one of the greats as a comedian. He'd always be there for you to kick in a joke or make you laugh when you needed it most. He left us too soon, but his jokes, his memory, his laugh that capitvated millions of people, and his unmistakable love of life and everything around him will carry on and live forever in the hearts of everyone who loved him and who waited for every SNL episode to hear what he'd say next.....Phil, we miss you and we love you....God Bless You!! R.I.P
When I think of Phil Hartman, the single word that comes to mind is treasure, for that's just what he was: simply, a treasure. Wonderfully funny, multi-talented, he was truly a gentle soul. Everyone who has signed this guestbook has written over and over that one need not have known him personally to realize what a fine, genuine human being he was. It is so true! He was so good at his craft and one could see how much he enjoyed doing what he did so well. I really believe he was the kind of performer that cared about his fans and it brought him much pleasure to know how much pleasure he gave to us all. His sense of timing was absolutely impeccable. I'll always remember where I was when I learned of his death, and not a day goes by when I don't think of him. I'll miss him forever.
As Troy McClure, Phil will remain eternal. I remember him from such films as "Calling All Quakers" (with Dolores Montenegro), and "The President's Neck Is Missing."
Not a day goes by that I don't think of this man. Everything he was a part of he gave his all. Never so much as a line was wasted on him. My goal in life is to have a career in stand-up, writing humor, and also voice-over work. At the end of 1996, I had sent Phil Hartman a letter explaining my goals in life (6 pages in length) and an audio tape I had made the year before in high school with my voices and skits I wrote and performed out on it. I asked Mr. Hartman in the letter if he could please let me know what he honestly thinks of my material and if he had any advice to give me for starting a career in comedy. In March of 1997 I received a hand-written letter back from him in the mail. In the letter Phil gave me a true critique of my stuff, some words of encouragement and advice on what might make my work better. I took his advice and put it into my ideas. His words changed my view of humor and it showed in my work. I finished a new tape that I was going to send to him and was going to write him back to thank him for writing me... something he did not have to do, let alone listen to the tape itself. Then it was at the end of '97 when I got into writing. So I figured I'd send him the tape, some of my writing, and a thank-you letter. I didn't get a chance to send anything to him after that horrible day in the early summer of '98. I regret never getting a chance to say "thank you," but I think somewhere out there he knows I'm grateful. I have already promised that if I ever get anything of mine published I would dedicate it to him, a man who truly gave me encouragement to follow my dreams and some wonderful insight that made my work better. I guess there was a reason you were taken from us, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. We miss you, Phil. And this person will never forget you and your talents. The world lost a good portion of laughter when you left.
Only the good die young... It's not fair, is it? So many people out there, and those who add a little to the world are always the ones to go. It doesn't seem right, but it's the way it always happens. Phil Hartman had it all. He was a gentleman, a funny man, a scholar, a Greek. Through his characters and skits, he's even an immortal. I'm watching an SNL rerun right now, and it's hard to believe that he's gone. But who else could be making God laugh right now?

Phil was the best actor on NBC because he was very, very funny, especially as Bill Clinton on SNL.
To Phil- You will forever be immortal; not only in the reruns of Saturday Night Live and NewsRadio, but also in the hearts of your millions of fans. You were and always will be my favorite actor -- the only actor, infact, that has made me laugh out loud at the TV. A gift you gave me that I will always appreciate. Your death has affected me in many ways, and I want to somehow let you know that I love you and your work and will remember and miss you always. I wept harder than I ever had before when I learned of your murder, and still carry that feeling inside of me. Phil, you hold a special place in my heart. Thank you. Forever yours, Mele
If anybody has a copy of the Newsradio Phil Hartman tribute episode, I would like to buy a copy of it. Please e-mail me timlg50@hotmail.com. Newsradio was a terrific show, and Phil just made it that extra level of special. He is truly missed.
Wow! That's all I can really say. It brings me great comfort to know that others feel the same about Phil. We felt his joys, we laughed with him, we heard his voice and saw his face so often that he became one of the family... one of the family who was suddenly... gone.
Well what can I say? Words can not describe the tremendous amount of grief and anguish we feel for this great loss. Phil was a top notch comedian, a talented actor, a brilliant writer, and an all-around hell of a guy. Although more than a year has passed since his untimely death, there still remains an immeasurable void of emptiness in the lives of those of us who grew to greatly appreciate his work, and even to those casual fans of his many Saturday Night Live characters, and to those like myself, who can't help but think that he still lives out there somewhere, there lies a painful gallow of darkness and misery. But the fact is that he died during a time when he was still doing what he loved best, making people laugh, and there is no greater glory than that. His true spirit is kindred with ours, and he will live forever in our hearts and souls. "That's the Bill McNeal perspective." From all of us who still love and cherish you Phil, farewell from afar. Rhett
i only remember seeing phil hartman on reruns of snl and funny movies. but when i first heard about his death i cried my eyes out. i still cry everytime i think about it. i cry when i see him on snl episodes that come on comedy central, or when i see him in a movie. i cried to sleep last night. rip phil. words from a distraught 12 year old

sometimes you realise that despite the drastic ups and downs of life, there will always be constants: the sun coming up in the morning, water from the faucet, a person you recognise in the mirror... i know it's been more than a year, but the void phil left when he died still feels like the stars have all gone from the sky. i love you, phil hartman. the joy and the tears are never going to stop.
Phil will always be a friend to us. He will be remembered for his acting work on SNL as well as the Simpsons, because now The Simpsons are not the same without Lionel Hutz and one of my favorite characters, Actor Troy McClure. You may remember him from such shows as The Simpsons. Goodbye Phil, we will miss you a lot.
I was one of the fortunate people who knew Phil personally. Shortly after his death, I got a tattoo of him on my left arm. The world lost a great talent, I lost a great friend.

Goodbye, Phil. Want I want to say is too much to put in words, so it will be short... Rest in peace.
Last friday, the Comedy Network in Canada replayed the season finale from 1993-94 SNL, which was Phil's last episode. During the credits at the end, the camera focused on him for the whole time, and he looked like he was crying. He was dressed in a suit, and it was very emotinal for me. I don't usually cry, but this was an exception. RIP Phil
I saw Phil in a few movies and on SNL. He was truly a very funny comedian. It still seems hard to imagine that he's really gone. I will he was still with us. God rest his soul.
I never thought I'd feel so close to someone I never met. Even this long after the fact, I still remember clearly what I was doing when I heard that Phil Hartman passed away. He was always my favorite, I remember saying, and he still is. I hope he is at peace wherever he is. And I thank him for all the laughter he brought to my life.
phil was my favorite comedian. i remember always waiting for SNL to see what he was going to be doing next to make people laugh. he always brought more laughter to my life. i loved to see what he would be saying on the real deal with bill mcneal on newsradio. it is hard to see him not on the show. i am glad that they got jon lovitz. i felt like i knew him that is why i miss him. may you rest in peace. my prayers go out to his family and friends. with lots of love, shantel
Phil Hartman was THE most ingenious comedian to ever grace us with his presenence. True, he left a wonderful body of work so we can forever laugh because of his talent, but it's just not enough. If only his last minutes could have been something that gave justice to his life. What kind of person deserves a death like that? No one, especially not a man like the great Phil Hartman, who only wanted to make people happy. You've made me very happy, Phil, and one day, I hope to be with you. Love forever, Irene
I think that when Phil died, in a way, a small piece of every one of us died with him... his years of comedy, from Pee-Wee's Playhouse, to SNL, to the many, many episodes of the Simpsons, up to his finale with NewsRadio. It sometimes makes you wonder how God could take someone away from us that has had such an impact on our lives. And although Phil's body is gone, his memory and spirit and presence will live on for decades to come. R.I.P. Phil Hartman. We Love You and We Will Join You Again Someday...

We all miss you Phil! R.I.P.
I never knew Phil Hartman, but I thought he was funny, anyway. I remember one time on "The Simpsons," he was playing Troy McClure and he said- "Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You may remember me from such films as 'Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die' and 'Gladys, The Groovy Mule.'" I also remember that on the special "The Pee-Wee Herman Show," Pee-Wee and Kaptain Karl (played by Phil), sang a funny song- "A sailor travels to different lands, anyplace he pleases, but he's always careful to wash his hands so he don't catch no diseases!" He was always great on "Saturday Night Live." In fact, I get a little misty-eyed when I view the "Tonight Song" Cold Opener from 1991's Steve Martin-hosted episode. Phil sang "I always hide behind these wigs and this makeup, but tonight I'm going to let myself shine through! Yes, they're gonna see the real Phil Hartman tonight!" Steve says "No, they won't," and Phil says "Okay!" But Phil always shined through. Allow me to quote from the song "Remember Me This Way" by Jordan Hill from the "Casper" soundtrack: "Every now and then, We find a special friend who never lets us down. Who understands it all, reaches out each time we fall, you're the best friend that I found. I know you can't stay, but part of you will never, ever go away. Your heart will stay. I'll make a wish for you and hope it will come true. That life will just be kind to such a gentle mind. And if you lose your way, think back on yesterday, remember me this way, remember me this way." Thanks, Phil. Thanks for The Anal-Retentive Chef, and Frankenstein, and Frank Sinatra, and the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, and Lionel Hutz, and Troy McClure. More quotes from "Remember Me This Way": "And I'll be right behind your shoulder, watching you! I'll be standing by your side in all you do! And I won't ever leave, as long as you believe." Goodbye, Phil! And goodbye Gilda, John, Chris, Danitra Vance and Michael O'Donoghue! We love you all! Sincerely, John Kilduff! I'm 16, by the way.
Phil Hartman was one of the greats, he will be remembered forever, by so many people. I wish I could have met him. I watch News Radio (the episodes with Phil) twice every weekday night, and Saturday Night Live (the episodes with Phil) a couple times a day. Phil is one of my idols. He was the funniest person ever, Mike Myers is right behind him. I wish he could have lived a lot longer. He meant a lot to everyone. Even thought I never met him, I feel like I have, from watching News Radio and SNL. He was the best, He is very much missed by me and millions (I hope more) of other people, world wide.
I remeber the first time seeing Phil. It was Captain Carl on the PeeWee Herman show (an hour long HBO special). As a regular on SNL in the late 80s, he brought alot of laughs, good times and memories. With numerous movies, Simpsons voices and his prime time stardom on NewsRadio, he brought alot of laughs to alot of people. He already has been truly missed, not just by me, but by alot of others. I hope that he will always be missed and never forgotten. never forgotten. It was a tragedy to see him go.
I love the T.V show News Radio and I wasnt aware that Phil was dead till I came to this site... I sat there for about 5 minutes thinking... wondering why the hell that god would do that... I guess that he has his reasons. RIP Phil Hartman

Looking back, I really regret not getting into Newsradio earlier... I just happened to turn it on perhaps two or three weeks ago and the aura of comedic talent and charm exuded by Phil Hartman is just unbelievable. Never before has there been a TV show that is GUARANTEED to make me laugh out loud each time I watch it. I also only found out recently that Phil Hartman was dead (Sorry, I'm a newbie!). It's really tragic. I get a little saddened by the fact that the Newsradio reruns (I'll probably never bother to watch the new episodes because there's no Bill McNeal) will eventually lose popularity and get taken off the air. Anyone know how I can watch the farewell episode? Thanks!

Still missing Phil Hartman. Phil, you are still making me and all of us laugh.
Phil--I have missed you. The world misses a great person. I only wish I could have met you before you had died. In fact, I would have, 1 month later at our family reunion. God bless you and your family.
a little over a year and i still can't believe he is gone. i will always feel this great sense of loss because phil was the only man who could make me laugh. i mean laugh out loud, just thinking about him today makes me smile. what a great gift he gave while he was here with us. i pray to GOD that we will see him again in heaven. thats really all i have to hold on to. GOD BLESS YOU PHIL HARTMAN !! you will always be a part of us! thanks for all the laughter!! amen
Phil was a truly talented comedian, and one of the nicest people that I completely knew but never got the pleasure of meeting. We all felt the loss on hearing the tragic news of his senseless and premature death, because it was like losing your favorite uncle who makes you laugh until your sides hurt and you're spraying coca-cola from your nose. He left us a body of work that will live on for years to come; one that will hopefully continue to challenge new talent, and more importantly, remind us all to laugh, to love, and to cherish each and every moment of life, because it's way too short!

The world is a little less funny. It's so hard, even today that someone with so much animation and life... is gone. R.I.P. Phil fans E-mail me I'd love to talk!

Phil, the day I found out about your death, was so much like the day I found out about Farley's. I reacted the same way. Immediately picking up and calling my comedic collegue, Colin and listening to each other in shock. I wont forget that day. You helped earn me fame in the classroom in 4th grade as I re-enacted "Soylent Green is made out of people!!! IT'S PEOPLE!!!!!" I watched you when I was a little kid, I still to watch you as a teenager, and I will continue to watch you as an adult. Your memory will live on in our hearts and our laughter. God Bless, my friend, and stay S-A-S-S-Y. What does that spell? SASSY.
may 28th 1998 is day that will live in infamy. It was my last day of high school, it was another day in the cycle of my life, and it was the day that sadly changed my life. I have followed phil hartman career since snl and i was one of his biggest fans. I remeber telling someone that phil hartman is the most underrated actor in america and he would only get respect if and when he died, and sadly it was the truth. When i heard the news, i thought it was a mistake, i scrambled to find the news, hoping it was an error , but again, it didn't happen. I didn't cry when he died, i just felt crappy for the next few weeks. Those weeks have turned into months, and not a day goes by that i don't think of him. Phil Hartman is the best, and i will always miss him each and every day.
Dear Phil Hartman, Even though I've never met you I love you and you are my idol. Every time I watch the farewell show NewsRadio & SNL'S A Tribute to Phil Hartman I cry my eyes out. I salute you sir-SALUTE

It wasn't just his Bill McNeal character that I loved, it was also the many voices that he did on The Simpsons, I think he did five, but that's all I've counted. We all miss him, so much that I'm sure most of us, like me, watch old NewsRadio shows and the reruns of SNL.
I really loved all the characters that Phil played but most of all I loved Bill McNeal. Whenever I watch Newsradio I always think that it would be even better if he were still here to make us laugh. Phil, wherever you are, people will never forget you!
Mr. Phil Hartman was the best, but once again one of the greatest people die. All the greats die (phil hartman, kurt cobain, and so many more.) You were the funniest guy ever...
Phil was simply a master of comedy. No matter what time of the day it was, he could make you laugh. He was a great person who will be remembered as one of the best. He is an inspiration to us all that are in the comedy business or would one day like to be in it. Now, he is making Jesus and God laugh. Thanks Phil for the memories.

Hello, my name is McKenna. I am 26 years old and a student of The Second City in Detroit MI. I love everything that Phil stood for. The world is still, over 1 year later, a darker place having lost such a loved person. I can only say this, as a student of the art of improvisation, I can honestly say that Phil Hartman was is and may very well always be the most brilliant and talented men of all times!!! We will never forget this man and the laughter that he brought to us. Let us also never forget how lucky we all are to have known him. Godspeed Phil.. Love, Everyone
Although I am from a different country, I happened to watch one of the "NewsRadio" show long time back(reruns!!).Since then I have become a fan of Phil Hartman.I would rate this great man next to Jerry Lewis, Norman Wisdom.Even till now, I sleep after watching the reruns of Newsradio in Fox channel(midnight 12-1).I would go to the extent of saying that those shows relaxes me everyday after my strenuous job during the day. I take this opportunity to salute a great man may his soul rest in peace.
We all know know that Phil is upstairs with those he loved and the great comedians are smiling with him up in heaven. We'll all miss you Phil no matter what. And dont forget your big can of SASSY!!
I can say I've had the pleasure of meeting this funny, and brilliant man. I say it's a damn shame that a man with a carrer that was skyrocketing upward, had two beautiful children and could make even Bill Clinton look good, has passed away. Phil, always know that you were loved and appreciated, and that you will be sorely missed. Heavens now a better and funnier place now. RIP
It is one day afrter the first anniversary of Phil Hartman's death, and I want to add my tribute to his memory. I found out about most of his work after he died, and I was shocked at how creative he was. "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" has been one of my favorite movies for a long time, and I had no idea that he co-wrote it. I had also never seen his Anal Retentive Chef or Carpenter sketches before or most of his imitations. He was wonderful. May Phil Hartman and his wife rest in peace, and may his children go on to lead happy lives. His work will live on for a long time.

Phil Hartman. When I heard about his death, I thought of how eerie--yet strangely appropriate it was that, at the end of his last SNL as a cast member, he and Chris Farley shared the spotlight for a curtain call all their own. Farley's passing made me feel like I'd lost the class clown, the party guy. But Hartman's passing made me feel like I'd lost a favorite uncle, the one who never talked down to you and always made you want to attend the family reunions. Bye, Uncle Phil. I love ya, man.

it has been one year since PHIL HARTMAN'S tragic murder. today is not an anniversary. it marks one long year of not having the best comedic actor of all time. i hope PHIL is doing what he likes best in Heaven. we all know what he did best, and that was to make us laugh. i hope and pray PHIL's children are coping with this great loss after a year. our hearts go out to you all. although many of us did not know PHIL personally we can all appriciate his acting skills that entertained us all. rest in peace PHIL, we miss you!

Phil Hartman was one of the greatest actors of all time. I think we should all make more tribute pages to re-live the memory of him.
First of all this has to be the greatest Phil Hartman site on the web as I've said over and over again. This being my third time writing in honor of Mr. Hartman. I'm glad others have recognized Phil's tragic murder and have made a memorial to him to honor one of the great comedians of all time. If I may I'd like to leave a message to Phil. Phil, you were undoubtedly the greatest comedian of all time. With a wide variety of characters and over a 1,000 voices such as Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure on the Simpsons, to President Reagan, Clinton, Frankenstein, the Anal Retentive Chef, Ed McMahon, Frank Sinatra, Charleton Heston and many others on SNL, from Cap'n Karl on Pee-Wee, to Bill McNeal on Newsradio and appearing in several major motion pictures shows how versatile your acting was and how much talent you had. You were taken from the world and your fans far too soon. I will forever miss you Phil. As of today I will always remember your talent as I try to impersonate the characters you have created. With more than the 1,000 voices you gave us you could deliver over a million laughs with them. I cannot even explain in words what you have meant to my life. All I can say is that you will be deeply missed by all you have touched. It has been very hurting to hear your name mentioned as the late Phil Hartman and to realize that you are indeed gone. As I watched this season of Newsradio, it finally clicked in my head that you will not be returning, and the show was nothing of what it used to be. I was so used to seeing you in many reruns of different shows, now knowing I will never see new things from "the man" really hurts deep inside. So Mr. Hartman, I hope you are resting in peace right now in Heaven and will forever. I cannot express any further how much of a loss you were to me. Rest in peace Phil, rest in peace =)
Phil, we're still thinking about and missing you a year later. I know you are in heaven and I hope you're NOT resting...I hope you're having a wonderful, happy time, filled with peace, contentment and all the love in the universe. You live on in our hearts and minds. Thank you for all the great memories.
On this one year anniversary of Phil's untimely death I ask everyone who visits this website memorial today to pray for his children and the rest of his family. Phil- We still miss you and always will!!!!!
