After 7 years, it's great to see Phil has so many people still thinking about him. Like I said on May 28th, 1998, he is sorely missed. And always will be.
I used to travel a lot, and in my stay at hotels I always looked forward to watch reruns of SNL and Newsradio where I found your roles so refreshing I couldn't do anything but laugh. Vaya con Dios Phil...

We will miss Phil Hartman(Brandy's mom and friend says they'd be cute together).Mattea says "Eight pairs! Can you believe it?!?!?!?(Hannuka Harry skit. Phil was Santa)
Watching A&E and like many others and just blown away by the sheer talent and and magitude of your presence the world shall never see another like u and we are all poorer for it. Whereever u may be i hope it is at peace
Wathching "Biography" on A&E tonight, I was reminded once again how much Mr. Hartman made me laugh... Looking back at all the characters he played over the years, I just kept laughing... I forgot about a lot of them and seeing them all over again, I couldn't help but shed a tear... THANK YOU PHIL, for everything!!! You really will never know how good you made me and countless others feel.
If there is an afterlife, and if there is a way to escape from it, please come back Phil. I really miss you. I grew up in a country where we used to call bad jokes "American Jokes". I guess you proved us wrong... :-)
phil, damn, phil, i knew you in high school and then you went and took that 2nd n off you're name. i lost you then. remember that binder with the graphics you drew? i still have the picture i took of it back in lieberman's class. i still remember he didn't think i knew squat about art when i made that logo that ended up on spellings fbi show, yet he thought oooh phil is the greatest graphic artist to ever grace the halls of westchester high. well, phil, you were the greatest, except maybe that shiela briggs who i have still been unable to find. seiousley, phil, i hope there is indeed some connection between here and there, at least on your side so you can see that we all got it and there really was no need for you to be so shy. your shadow lives on and i say this from a long time ago, so don't worry. those who are love, remain love
You were everything good in the world all wrapped up in one sarcastically brilliant little passage... Where ever you are now,,, I hope you are at peace...
I've watched Newsradio nearly every day for the last two months or so. Phil Hartman's wit, charisma and genius never cease to brighten my days. He is greatly missed.
Dear Phil
Thank You!!!!
Your comic genius and awesome, flawless characterisations have succeeded in bringing much joy to my life.
Your untimely murder has created a great loss and made me cry.
Again Thank You
Vanessa
Phil, never got to meet you, but you will always be in my heart, thanks for always making me laugh. Your memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of your fans.
Phil was a comic Genius! Roles in SNL, The Simpsons, News Radio, and many, many more. All I can say is that I wish I had a nickel for everytime that man made me laugh. I'd be one of the wealthiest people on the planet. I guess the whole Phil experience has made us all wealthy with laughter, and you can't put a price on his comedy. He is, and will always be sorely missed! They broke the mold when they made that man.
Hey Phil, buddy I hope that you are making people laugh up in Heaven because whenever I watch shows and movies with you I always laugh. You were the best and you are the best!!!!!!
From before I could remember right through today I've been an SNL Junkie. I have favorites from every era, but for me Phil Hartman will always be the best. He was capable of being as funny as Bill Murray or Dana Carvey or Eddie Murphy, but he managed to do it without looking like he was trying to launch a movie career in the process- a true professional. His style brought a depth and believability to SNL humor that I don't think I've seen since.
Thank you phil for making me and my family laugh throughout the years, I especially remember the Saturday Night Live appearances the most, thanks old pal, Rest In Peace -- Goodbye

Phil Hartman was my favorite SNL character. The McDonald's sketch he did as Bill Clinton has become a classic. I always thought he was hilarious, and he will be missed greatly.
Phil I loved you on Suddenly Susan and The Simpsons. I cried when it all happened, and I didn't know there was a tribute page. To the creator of the web page, it is beautiful.
Mr. Hartman what can we say about you that hasn't been said ... you're a beautiful man that has strengthened the lives of so many people in life and death ... I hope my own life can reach out and affect half as many as yours did.

They say the good die young. Something about Phil shined and seemed almost too good for this world. He lives on in all of us who remember and honor him and what he was.
Me again. I'm watching the Red Blazer Realty episode of the Simpsons. Lionel Hutz is the greatest! And of course who could forgot the Planet of the Apes scene when Troy McClure was dating Selma Bouvier. <333 Miss ya!

Hi Phil. I love the Simpsons and Lionel Hutz was one of the greatest characters. You are such a funny guy. I love you even though I haven't met you! You are so awesome! Miss you lots! The Simpsons just isn't the same without Lionel Hutz Attorney at Law and Troy McClure. Rest in Peace.

I cannot believe that he is gone, and has been for quite some time now...I grew up on Phil's comedy, I am just in shock. Recurring Simpson episodes with Phil has skewed the linearity of time for me as I thought he was still alive. Perhaps it's just indicitive of how timeless his comedic performances are. I'm i shock... my deepest regards and respect.
R.I.P. Phil....
I LOVE Newsradio, I think you were (are) so great! I was so upset hearing about your death (pretty weird, I've only heard it a few months ago)..
SUCH a tragic loss..
Me and my three kids watch the simpsons every day...We love it. Especially when Troy McClure comes on.
We fall about laughing. It's an absolute tragedy.
RIP Phil...The Kelly Family
Thanks, Phil, for all the laughs. When I was 24 yrs. old I moved from Vancouver, B.C. to Ontario for a job. I was away from all my friends and family. Everynight before bed I would watch News Radio. It was wonderful way to end my day with "friends". Phil, you were one in a million and you are truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your children.

Hi, just surfing in from the Warren Zevon mesage board. Just wanted to say that Phil always made me laugh, he just had that kind of demeanor and elan in his characters. That he was a very likeable person off the set, away from his celebrity, makes his passing even more painful. The good ones go too soon.
I liked him on SNL, enjoyed him a lot on News Radio. Thanks for the laughs Phil.

Phil~ you are missed! My son (19 years old) and I (45 years old) both appreciated and are grateful that you shared your brilliance with us all. Thank you for all the laughs! Our only regret is that you were taken away from the party way too early! ciao, ciao, with love, Robin & Christopher
They call Peter Sellers the man of 1,000 characters, but he had nothing on Phil. Jon Lovitz tried his best, and we know how much he loved his friend, but it was truly Phil who made "News Radio" what it was. He is still missed and loved every day. Hope his children are doing well.

I've always been a fan of Phil's, but have been thinking about him more since watching the SNL 25th Anniv. DVD. What a comic genious he was; so versitile! His impersonations were hilareous! He was an amazing talent. It is tragic his life was so abruptly ended. You are still sorely missed, Phil. Rest in Peace.

I was so pleased to come across this website. I was a real fan of Phil Hartman's work. From "Dr. Markham, LLung Doctor, to his characterization of Phil Donohue: from Bill MacNeil on News Radio to His Bill MacNiel character doing Clinton...he made me laugh... and laugh. I am so very grateful for all of his characters and the many hours of laughter and good feeling his "style" of comedy brought me. I would like to also mention John Lovitz. I understand they were very close friends...that was evident by the repore they shared during skits and by his reaction during the SNL 25th Anniversary while introducing one of Phil's skits, a little vignet called, I think, Love is a Dream? Anyway, Thankyou Phil, wherever you are, for bringing a little mmore humour into this maddening world.

It's Kells!
I recently lost my little brother, so I know what it feels like to lose someone who not only brought joy to me but to other people as well. Just like Mr. Hartman. He was the reason I watched NewsRadio. I don't care how long it's been since the loved one died, that emptiness is always there.
I only knew about Phil when his murder was broadcasted everywhere, and that's when i found out who he really was and what he has contributed to the world. although i wasn't aware of your accomplishments while you were still alive, i still miss you like everyone else... We love you Phil..
I didn't really know much about him, all I know is that he was a great comedian and starred on Simpsons as a few characters. Still, my condolences to him, and may he Rest In Peace.
I recently purchased Phil Hartman-SNL. I've watched it twice in the past three days. He was and is amazing...He animated the truth brilliantly within his many characters. He is pure and real energy that will continuosly live on....
The Phil Impostor has surfaced again, this time in a Geico car insurance commercial... I've also seen him in commercials for Cox Cable and Immodium AD- does anyone know who this guy is?
Phil, wherever you are... thanks for all the times you made me laugh. I salute you, sir -- SALUT!

I never knew him but i still feel bad!! i just watched kiki's delivery service and it said in loving memory for phil hartman! I AM SO SORRY!! anyway may he rest in peace!!
Atleast once a week I still get very upset about the murder of Phil Hartman. God, I miss him. No other recent comedy figure comes close to his level of brilliance. I still harbor anger, but that's non-productive. I miss him.
What a gifted, wonderful man. Wish he was still with us.

Just watching the simpsons and thinking of phil. It was the Lionel Hutz estste agent episode - one of my favourites. The best ever is the Planet of the Apes musical! He just seemed to have a natural talent for making things funny. Phil was a unique and amazing man and one of the most talented comedians of any generation. He is greatly missed. God bless you Phil.

Was watching a Dan Ackroyd bio on TV tonight and only now heard of the tragic circumstances behind his death. I was only aware that he had passed on. My other half and I used to stay up 'til 1:30am each night when Newsradio was shown on satellite over here about 5 years ago and Phil was the most enjoyable and entertaining character. I've spent the last while reading more and more about him and was amazed at the number of times I was entertained wonderfully by him without even realising the comedic genius was the man himself. Phil, you are still missed.
It has been about 6 years, since Phil Hartman was taken away from the world. I have seen all of his movies, and he was an amazing actor. I just saw Houseguest today with Sinbad, and Phil was in that movie. I watched as he cared for "Derek" who Sinbad played. He was caring like that in real life. I also saw that no matter what he did, he always made people laugh. Thank you Phil for entertaining the world with your kindness, caring, and gentle heart and soul. You will truly be missed by everyone.
Thanks for hosting this site. Your description offinally making it to a taping nearly had me crying.
I was 16 when Belushi died, which deeply affected me at the time, far more than the death of John Lennon. Which, I suppose, is a bit odd on my part, considering that John's death was self inflicted, but he was a big part of my early adolescence.
Hartman's abrupt end was a shocker, not least because it was so senseless.
Thanks again for such a great tribute to such a talented beloved individual.
Saw the old movie Coneheads today. Phil was in that movie. got me thinking about him and how much I miss his talent. He was a very funny, very talented man. I miss him...and John Ritter too.

he had this amazing talent to make us laugh in the work that we have seen. he will be sadly missed by all his fans everywhere.
Phil Hartman was an ICON in SNL comedy. He brought so much to the table with his so accurate impressions and the versatility of them. The entire cast of SNL during that era needs to sit back and look at the shows of that time, they were the best, and Phil Hartman played a key role, he, to this day and forever will be sorely missed. God Bless you, Phil.

I was/am a big fan of Phil Hartman's SNL years. I got a chance to meet my idol the year before he died. He attended a fundraiser called "Stars over Amory" in Amory, Mississippi. He arrived in a pink Caddy and did his Bill Clinton on stage. The event was held outside and after the celebrities did their act, they would come and sit in the front row. My wife and I waited by the side of the stage until Mr. Hartman came out and then introduced ourselves. He had come out with Ms. Mississippi and she stood there with him while he spoke to us. She eventually sighed loudly and walked to her seat. I immediately panicked and thought that we were bothering him as well. When I appologized to Mr. Hartman he turned to Ms. Mississippi, turned back to us, and then rolled his eyes and made like she was no big deal. All his attention was focused on us, like we were the most important people in the world. I've never been starstruck before that, or since, but I was then. I have to admit that my wife said more to him than I did. Having my idol, and the funniest person in the world(in my opinion) in front of me just blew me away.
The point of this message is that for five minutes he treated me and my wife as if we were friends, equals, and seemed to truly appreciate us waiting to speak to him. I'll always remember how kind, giving, and human he was to us. This is how I feel about meeting him once for five minutes. I can only imagine what it must have been like to know him.
I enjoyed all Phil's Movie works, he was not as big in the UK as in the US but many people are still shocked at his untimely passing. I only found out recently and it's 7 years since. Where ever you are Phil remember the old addage, 'Make em laugh!'

I'll never forget the time I was put on hold as first choice for a multi-character TV commercial (about 12 years ago). A day or two later my agent called to tell me I didn't get the job .."they went for a celebrity." When I found out that they'd hired Phil Hartman instead, I was so unbelievably flattered-to make second place next to him! What a brilliantly talented, versatile actor Phil was. The recipe for funny was sewn into the fabric of his soul.

always a great moment to hear troy McClure in the simpsons. and especially kiki's witty cat Jiji. truely a funny guy. sadly missed. Godspeed
Seven years and I can still cry when I see fabulous you or hear your fabulous voice. It was not your time, it was not your time -- for nothing, for nothing.
I first heard Phil's mellifluous and smooth style in a voiceover on the "C&R Clothiers" radio and TV commercials locally in Southern California, I believe in the mid 80s or so.
I truly miss his suave, cool approach to comedy, from lines such as "Hmmmm,Howard, your wife's cookies!" in Arnold's "Jingle All the Way," to that classic Sinatra bit, to the "Sassy" show, featuring up-and-coming hunks and an endearing and admiring gay host played so well by Phil. "Sassy!"
I experienced a dreadful chill when my mother told me about an experience she had after Phil's tragic death.
Mom's friend, a real estate agent, took my mom to Phil's vacant house in Encino in the San Fernando Valley when it was for sale, and Mom just stood in Phil's bedroom and thought about the tragic waste of two lives over jealousy.
I will always have a special place in my heart for one of the funniest men ever, dear Phil Hartman. R.I.P.

I can't get over that it's been six years already.
I've posted many and many more times on this site.
I don't know what to say anymore.
I am still at a loss.
Thank God we have TV Reruns of "SNL", "The Simpsons", and "Newsradio". And now the "Best of Phil" from SNL on DVD, as well as "The Simpsons" seasons.
Who knows what laughter Phil could have brought us the last six years?
Phil, may you continue to rest in peace. SALUT!
Its sad, i am only finding out now about what happened to Phil Hartman. I have seen him so many times on TV, and in movies. He was a great actor, and always made me laugh.
You will be missed Phil.
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who still misses Phil Hartman. Long before anybody really paid any attention to Phil, I was already a fan. Dana Carvey and Adam Sandler (no disrespect intended) may have gotten all of the attention, but Phil was the real genius of that bunch. Has anybody ever seen a better Frank Sinatra impression? It is such a tragedy that he was killed during what was likely to become the pinnacle of his career. He really was a jem in the world of comedy.

Phil, you will be sorely missed.
It may have been over 6 years but I certainly haven't forgotten. I still often wonder "what if"... By the way, if anyone hasn't bought SNL's Best Of Phil Hartman on DVD, do it. Phil's audition, as well as the outtake segments of Phil cracking up and breaking character are worth it.
This is an amazing man.....always remembered for his wonderful face and graceful laugh. Sincerely missed, you will be. God rest his soul and kiss the foreheads of the family members left behind!!!
For so many years Mr.Hartman made me laugh till I cried. His passing is a great loss but I will forever remember his timeless characters and his sense of humour. Mr.Hartman lives in every laugh at his jokes and characters. I know this means he will live on with us forever. Thank you Phil for all the laughs.

Six long years since Phil's untimely passing, and it's still so very sad and tragic that each May 28 I can't help but remember that horrible day in 1998. Such senseless loss, it still staggers the mind. Much has happened in the intervening years, and one can only wonder about the laughter Phil would have brought in these dark times. These days we can only see Phil in his movies or on the occasional SNL or News Radio rerun, or hear his golden voice on the Simpsons in syndication. Unfortunately, for me, these chance encounters with Phil only serve to remind me that he is no longer with us. Six years certainly seems long enough to have healed, to have moved on, to have accepted the hand fate dealt him, but his death remains unreconciled in my mind.
Rest in peace, Phil. I'm glad I knew you.
To the admin: thanks for keeping this site going all these years. It is both a service and a shrine to the memory of a great man.
