Last night here in holland the 'memorial' episode was on TV. I watched it with a big lump in my throat. To the greatest comedian ever to set foot on earth, SALUT!

Phil, here in Holland you are still on tv with News radio. You really were a great actor!
Hi, I'am 13 y/o, (sorry, bud my English is not very well, iam from holland)bud I know yersterday that you are died,I was a hard impact to me,i always look to your show's,specially NEWSRADIO,phil,I will always think to you!! Bye Phil. Tim
I am only 13, so that would of made me only 11 when he died. I was an avid fan of SNL since I was 3 my Father said. He also said whenever Phil came on I would un over to him and say: "That's the funny man Daddy!" On that May 28 Day I can remember listening to my radio and hearing them break into my favorite song. I was mad at the time, but when they said what had happened I froze in shock. I have made it my mission ever since that day to keep the memory of Phil and to let people know about the many different homicides/sucidides that go on every day. I just want to say Rest in Peace my friend. Untill we meet again, you will live forever in the hearts and memories of all the poeple that ever saw you act.
I remember the first time I saw Phil was on "Pee Wee's Playhouse". I had no idea that I was witnessing a genious. When I saw him on "Saturday Night Live", no matter what character he was playing, you paid attention. That was his gift. He was brilliant. If there is anyone out there that wants to learn about becoming a comedian and doing it with class, get ahold of copies of Phil Hartman at his best. I remember the day I found out that he died. I compare that to the day that I found out that other comedic geniouses had died. The only differnce is that he was far above the talent of anyone else and you never get over it. There were times that nothing else consoled me like his humor. He made me laugh out loud at times when I found it hard to breathe. I have had times in my life that I wondered how I would make it through the night and then there was Phil. He will never know how brilliant I really thought he was. The only thing I can do now is try to bring his genious to others and hope they will see what is obvious to us, that Phil is a comedic genious and as long as we keep him alive, he alway will be. Best wishes Phil. I'm not ashamed to say, I love you man. God Bless, Leslie
Phil was the funniest[next to mike myers] it was a great loss indeed he was sooooo funny

well what can we say there hasnt been any "Hi Im Troy Mecler"(however you spell it sorry) and of course " You may remember me from such films as etc etc ..." well i sure miss goodolroy he could make the show...
Every time I see a performance of him, I cannot believe he's dead. As a past frelance comdey writer for Jay Leno, I know comedy and Phil was comedy. He lent class to being a comedian, unlike so many others. He would've been bigger than Jim Carey by now. Such a loss. It is amazing how drugs kill so many talented lives directly and indirectly. Dave
Shame. Being in the UK, only ever manage to catch him when Paramount Comedy show NR late at night, but he made me laugh louder than most and very sorry to hear him gone.
Although I am only 15 years old and have not had the great fortune to view Phils SNL career, I am an avid Newsradio and Simpsons watcher to which, I feel, Phil adds an entirely different dimension. His death tore something out of me and both shows feel somewhat emptier without him.
like many of your fans i never got to see you in person. i see you in re-runs all the time and without you even saying a word i am smiling at you. yours was a life and a gift which is sorely lost, clearly i am not the only person to think so. because of the person you were whenever people think of you they will smile. Many thanks for that. Bye phil
The moment I had heard Phil Hartman died on May 28th in 1998, I felt horrible ... It was the saddest I had ever felt... I can still feel that sadness... He was my idol and I cannot believe he is gone ... and that its been almost 3 years! :-( We miss you Phil !!!!!!!!!!!! Harmony
phil. you were always a part of me, even when i had no idea that you existed. whenever i heard your voice on the simpsons as a five year old girl my face always lit up. when you died (i was about 10 at the time), my whole family was in mourning. i thought "what is all the commotion about some guy that did a voice on the simpsons about???" but now i do know. every time i see or hear you, my face still shines up. on newsradio, your sarcastic wit is still enjoyable. i just can't believe you're dead. still. it just gets to me. you make me laugh, and i'll never, ever, forget you. god bless.
Cheers Phil, your genius shines on. (ps. can anyone reccomend somewhere where I can purchase Newsradio eps on video? I'm desperate to see the final 2 seasons. Thanks)

Wow, I still can't believe it, 3 years, already. I am 13 and I still enjoy SNL Simpsons and News Radio. Phil made me laugh 3 years before he dided, I only wish I had more time to enjoy his great talent as Frank Sanatra, Frankenstien, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Troy, Bill, and every single wonderful character, that he portraied(so many I can't list them all!). Phil, I not sure you can read this, but hopefully they have internet up there in the sky, but any ways, You will live on in my heart for ever, and I will always keep you living in my heart, and the hearts of friends.

We miss you phil and I know your probably entertaining all the angels with you!!!!
Phil Hartman, you have made me realize my dream, and for that, I'm eternally gratefull! You have been one of the most important people in my life and have inspired me through the good and the bad. I will forever miss you.
My father and his brother had a language, much like the Eggspeak that P.H. and his siblings used . It was called "Alfalfa Talk". Phil Hartman died on the 15th anniversary of my dad's death. I like to believe my dad was there to help with the surprise of the crossing.
Phil, comedy is just not the same without you. You were truly an original and a talent. I miss you and the way you made me laugh. All I can say is "Thank god for reruns."
I really feel foolish writing this but I just now saw that phil has died. Im from the Netherlands and "Newsradio' is just on air a couple of weeks. Ik was looking for info on the show when i read about his passing....my heart goes with the family and with everybody who loves comedy..... sorry im so late phil...... yours faithfully dennis
it's been awhile since i last posted. it makes me happy that so many have posted since i last visited this site. i think it's great that PHIL is still is the hearts and minds of many. i know that the comedic impression he left will never be forgotten. to all of the "new" PHIL fans keep enjoying the re-runs of "Newsradio" and "The Simpsons." for that's all we have now to remember PHIL by.
I came to Newsradio late, and have only been watching it on A & E for a couple of months. Fantastic, and Phil is at his delicious best! Peace to you sir, and save a few good giggles for when I arrive!
Phil, I'm not quite sure what to say. You brought so much joy and laughter into my life. I still can't believe you're gone. I love you and will never forget you. I hope to see you in heaven.
It's been 10 months since I last signed this yearbook, but I had to sign it again. I originally found this haven for Phil Hartman through a strenuous search to find something about him. Once I got here and saw the guestbook, I saw I wasn't alone. I bookmarked, and still come back regularly to view the fellow tributes to him when I see him in a particularly good episode of SNL, NewsRadio, or as a voice on the Simpsons. I still feel the twinge of pain when I remember that he is gone, forever to heaven and no longer here to do what he loved to do, perform. I believe he is in Heaven, entertaining the masses.

Comedy is still missing something today and that is the presence Phil Hartman. Phil truely was the "HART" of comedy. He will be missed forever. Phil Hartman was the best acquisition NBC/SNL ever made. I'm glad they did. When I think of him, I lauph, and that is the best form of immortatitly a person could ever accomplish on this planet. See ya Phil. Thanks again for making me lauph. -Todd
I always have found Phil funny on old SNL reruns and old Newsradio reruns. He is the reason that I would like to one day go into comedy. I wish I could have met him. I hope he's having fun wherever he is.

The man was clearly both brilliant and staggeringly awesome. Phil lives on! Long live Phil!
hey guys. I just wanted to say something quick. I think that Phil was an incredible man/comedian. I loved watching him on snl, and even watch the oldies, just to see him. He is humor at it's best. It was a shame to lose him. I love you Phil, and you are sadly missed.
We live in a world filled with celebrities and we are bombarded with an endless stream of different forms of entertainment. Often the most celebrated are those who "look the best" or somehow have mainstream appeal. Phil made not have been as successful as many others in Hollywood, but he was one of the most talented comedians of the modern age. Phil Hartman's body of work represents some of the most creative and uproariously funny moments in modern history. His ability to make me laugh is something I treasure and often rely on. Whether its SNL, News Radio, or any of the many film cameos, the guy always makes me smile...RIP Phil. You will always be remembered.
Phil Hartman was the best. It takes a real original kind of comedy to entertain me and Phil certainly had (has)that gift!! So while you're amusing the angels up there; know that you're missed down here.
It is a tragedy that such a great talent was taken from our world too early. Phil Hartman is such an inspiration to me. I would have really loved to meet him. Phil, you are missed.

What a great guy you were Phil. You made us laugh and then you made us cry. R.I.P Phil
As a fellow Canadian, Phil's death was a tragic loss to us all here in the Great White North. He made us laugh ourselves silly. We mourn his passing and celebrate his life for now and forever.

Phil was a great comedian, in films like CB4 and he was in the funniest program ever, The Simpsons. Rest In Peace. Phil
Phil Hartman, what a guy... it wasn't so much the things he said that were funny, but the way he said them. Phil, you will never be fogotten. Thanks for the memories. Your friend, Brian
great website/tribute! i just saw an snl with Phil as the guest! it just reminded me how great and how fun he was!!! hope your killing them in big snl theater in the sky!!
Thanks, Phil, for making me laugh. For using your talents in wonderful ways. In all of showbiz... few were as gifted as you. You brought happiness and smiles to the world. Your legacy lives on... old friend. RIP
Phil Hartman was a joy to watch and I'm glad I had the chance to experience him. He was and always will be one of the funniest men ever. He will be sorely missed
Phil was the funniest person on News Radio! He made me cry a couple of times due to laughing so hard. The episodes with Max Louis (Jon Lovitz) just aren't funny at all... except for Matthew. He's a riot too!
I first became familiar with Phil Hartman's work through The Simpsons, although it was Newsradio, shown nightly here in the United Kingdom on Paramount's Comedy Channel, which made me a fan. Surprisingly, the series hasn't been acquired by a major network. Phil Hartman's untimely death is both shocking and tragic. He was unique and irreplacable.
Yesterday I was washing dishes and it just hit me that he was gone. I don't know why it hurts so much that he is gone... but it does. Thanks for the memories... no matter how painful they are. I am thankful I have them

Your heart and talent will be missed forever. Be with your friends in spirit, so that their lives will be as rich as when you were alive.
Goodbye Phil. With every smile and laugh you are remembered. You're in our hearts and in our prayers, forever. For an eternity the world will mourn the loss of one so clever, intelligent, priceless, and charming. Godspeed, sir... we love you.
it's sad really that a man that funny and that brilliant had to go and in such a bad way. i am so upset about it and i feel so sorry for his kids and all the rest of his family and very good friends. god bless u phill!!!
i have already sighned this guest book, but reading all the other entries makes me think of more to say about phil. when i moved to florida almost 2 years ago i knew no one here. i was completely alone. watching news radio every night in reruns always made me feel better. there was never a time watching that show where i didn't laugh out loud. and they say laughter is good for the soul. i love comedy and to this day i am so sad that such a great man and talent was taken away from all of us so suddenly. reading this guest book i see how many people he has inspired and i wish all of you guys the best of luck. phil had the gift to make people of all ages sex and race laugh. he was and is truly one of a kind. thank you phil for all the laughs. you brighten everyone's life each time we see your work. salut. good times. good times.

i have already lest a messeage for phil, but for all you news radio fans out there who are upset that upn got rid of the re runs it is now on a&e at noon eastern standard time. for anyone who does not know yet.
God bless phil. it's been two and a half years since his death and he's still missed. If anyone knows where i can find some pics of phil in character (cavemanlawyer, frankenstein, ect.) email me the link it would be greatly appreciated.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of Phil Hartman and his children. We are so fortunate to have experienced his gift, which will live in our hearts forever. He was and always will be one of the best comics in the world. Thank You so much for this and all other memorial sites, it really helps to read others thoughts, and to keep the memories going together...
i'm so glad to know there's so many news radio fans out there. i loved that show from the beginning until phil died, and it just wasn't the same anymore. of course i've always been a big fan of snl, phil being one of my favorite cast members and the show's greatest talant. i remember watching news radio with john lovitz and every time andy dick's character would do something spaz-like i would think "i wonder what bill's going to say about that!" then i realized the reason lovitz was on this episode was because phil was dead and i just couldn't watch the show without him on it. i was saddened but not suprised when chris farley passed away, but phil's death was truly a shock. i don't watch an episode of snl new or old without thinking of phil's major contribution to the sucess of the show. he will always be rememberd and forever missed. a true comic genius. i love ya phil. stacey m.

All that matters now is remembering all of Phil's characters and special talents. In the future when we all have children or grandchildren we can tell them of the late, great Phil Hartman and maybe even spark some inspiration into them. Instead of thinking of Phil Hartman as the dead comidian/actor/artist we should think of him as a teacher. Rest in Peace good sir! P.S. I'll definitely be lined up to meet him on the otherside.
My all time fave Troy McClure quote... "Here's the recipe for DNA, you take a dash of dad, a pinch of mom, and, mmm... that's good Billy!" I never wanted to believe that Phil Hartman had actually died. When my brother first told me about it I dismissed it as idle gossip, "that would never happen, not to him..." So I carried on watching "The Simpsons," then more recently discovering "Newsradio" on late night-cable, I couldn't fathom that anyone would want to kill this man, the man who was making me laugh so hard. Always having it in the back of my mind that yes, he could be dead, but never believing it, so finally a couple of years after his death, I pluck up the courage to go on the internet and type "Phil Hartman" into my search engine... oh my... why are there so many tributes to a man who isn't dead I ask myself. Then finally I clicked on a tribute site... discovering the horrible details of an end so tragic, and so unecessary. All I can say is some of the greats must be having a whale of a time in heaven right now with guys like Phil around... I only wish he was here now...

May Phil Hartman rest in peace, I'm so glad we have so much of his talent on film so we can enjoy it forever!
Thanks to Phil and his remarkable way of expressing others through himself, I now can stand up to those most critical of me and say "I'm not afraid of you, I got chunks of guys like you in my stool!"...EASY BABY EASY. I'll miss you Mr Hartman... GOD BLESS
"Oh Joe Camel don't you cry for me! You gave my uncle cancer but you'll pay the lawyer's fee!!" Phil Hartman, singing while playing the piano on "Newsradio"
R.I.P Phil. I felt like a familly member died when I heared about your death. There are not many artists who can count me as a fan (less then 5), but you were one of them.
Today someone mentioned watching Phil on SNL, and I almost burst into tears. It's so tragic what happened. I loved to watch him on Newsradio, the show was never the same without him. No one will ever forget Phil Hartman. I know I won't.
Your magnificent comedy lives on. The reason your work is immortal and will never die is because you could bring to life all the phony bullshitters we all know and somehow make it pure comedic genius! Salute to you Sir!!!
It only shows how warm and personal Phil Hartman was that this page is still being signed by fans. So many people mourn the death of a man that was rarely himself. But to me, like everyone, he was being himself - he was making me laugh. I treasure what he gave us. When he died, I felt the world was losing an important man, someone who figured it out and was sharing it with the rest of us. I still cry when I think about how it was all cut short, but I thank god for re-runs. His stuff will never grow old. I will be waiting in line to shake his hand. I love you and miss you, Phil. You are deeply missed.

Phil Hartman had the best humor because you could tell that he was a great guy behind it all. Newsradio is an incredible show, and Bill McNeal is my favorite. Phil always was my favorite. Even beore he died I considered him to be the best snl cast member. I cried when I heard he had died. I didn't even know him, but I miss him so much. He was a genius and he'll be kept alive in the work he did and the people he touched, and I am one of them. Thank you, Phil, for making me laugh. You are missed. All my heart...

I know its been a while since his death, but today I felt sad again over his death :( I still watch the repeats of newsradio but never in the same way knowing he died. A tribute will always carry on, shame he didn't get to to voice the character that matt groening created for him (Zap Brannigan).

Phil Hartman was a talented man, who inspired people to be funny. He didn't do it by making funny noises or funny faces. He made people laugh simply by being himself, by showing us what the real person was like. I only hope that people remember Mr. Hartman the way he should be remembered. As a talanted actor/comedian. Thank you for many years of laughter. R.I.P. and God Bless You.
I saw Phil on Howard Stern's original E! Show with him and his wife and I got to know a little bit more of Phil Hartman outside of SNL. It was a great interview. God Bless You and your Family
1st Sam Kinison was taken away, then Chris Farley was ripped away from us too soon. Now with Phil gone, I think God needed some joy, laughter and entertainment up in heaven. [R][I][P]

As a huge fan of Saturday Night Live (especially the older ones) I was confused by Phil's tragic ending, but of course it's not really an ending because Phil's memory will always live on in Saturday Night Live and in the laugh track of any sitcom with a wacky character (like Phil's often were), and in the minds of any person who loves to make people laugh.
Without a doubt, the best SNL actor in the history of the show. His presence in the industry is more than apparent and I can only hope there is one that is like him somewhere. Granted, Phil was one of a kind.
I, like others, felt like I somehow knew Phil, when I didn't really. He sent me an autographed picture in 1996 that said "No, no, no, Wes! You are the funny one." He died the day after I hung it in my office at work. It came right back down out of respect for him. I still get choked up thinking of our loss. Stay close Phil, we need more men like you.
I had just finished watching the episode w/ the announcement of his daughter, and I just couldn't help but feel completely devastated... to know that his fate was to die in his home several years later. I came home from school on the 28th when my mom told me that a famous comedian was found dead. I asked her who it was, but she didn't remember. When I was watching the news later that evening, I learned that Phil Hartman had died. I just remembered rejecting the reality of it... I enjoyed Phil Hartman in Newsradio... especially his often backwards logic. I especially enjoyed the episode where he gets Lisa to go with him to a commercial recording... Lisa then finds that Bill's role had been changed from the father to the Genie. LOL! Newsradio was, in my opinion, some of his best work. I've always enjoyed watching Phil Hartman on television and on the big screen. I especially enjoyed his SNL time... the cast he was a part of, I think, was the best ever assembled. I hope that where ever he is, he knows that he left behind an enormous multitude of fans.

Never have I been so profoundly upset by the death of a celebrity - someone with whom I was never acqainted. As others have written, I too felt as if I knew him personally. He just had that kind of charisma oozing from his smile that did that to us. And that voice, oh that voice. I grew up watching SNL, from Belushi to present. I've said goodbye to some wonderfully talented cast members, but never had I cried, repeatedly, over any until Phil. When the 25th Anniversary was aired (and every time it's been re-aired) I cried. That movie short touched me when I saw it all those years ago, but didn't make me sob uncontrollably. I hope he knows how much he brightened people's lives with his genius, and amazing talent to be able to transform into anyone, at any time. Forever he will be dear to me, and I don't doubt that 25 years from now I'll be sitting on my couch, with tears rolling down my face, while watching him on tv... Goodbye Phil (Looks like I have to take a number around here to meet you in the afterlife.)
I'm a man. I've been told that a man should behave a certain way and expect to be treated a certain way. Today I break ranks. Phil and I never knew each other, but in so many ways he was part of my life. Upon hearing that Phil was gone, I could only swallow back the tears and take the pain. To Phil, Break a leg! To all the fans... never forget.
As a comic starting out in the NY local scene, I have always used Phil's approach to comedy. Being a fan of his many works for over 6 years, turning 21 and presenting myself as an amatuer comic, I cry just a little bit before I go on stage. His spirit allows me to realize the evil yet funny characters. I truly love him and will never forget his wonderous characters. Phil is more then a true inspiration and more like a friend, a hero, and a guiding light through this unfunny yet mystical world of jokes. I love you Phil (no, not in that way, lol). You are my best friend, and thank you a 1,000 times for your warm and charming lust for comedy and life. You will be missed...
Phil, you ARE a great man, wherever you may be. To your children: your father was a great man. His talent touched the hearts of millions and just because he is not here doesn't mean he's not here. If you are anything like the two of them, your lives will truly be fullfilling. My heart and prayers are with you, ALWAYS.
Like some others who've written so wonderfully here, I first discovered Phil Hartman's comedic genius through Newsradio, and I instantly fell in love with it.It's a strong testament to him, and the effect that he had on other people's lives, that 2 and a half years later, this guestbook is still getting signed regularly!Phil, I think it's safe to say that we all salute you, sir!
Phil, you were truly one of the greatest members of SNL ever. You were the BEST of them all when you made all of us cry with laughter. Your memory will always live through the comedy you helped to inspire.
Dear Phil, you are my f###in hero. You helped write one of the best comedies (which people fail to realize) ever in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure." Unlike many idiots, I watched and made Newsradio my religion before you passed away (not that I pride myself on that fact). Bill McNeal's arrogance, bad facts (e.g. "Rome wasn't burnt in a day") and stupidity crush all other weak imitations. I'll see at your sold out comedy routines in the afterlife. Peace, much love, R.I.P.
Phil you were the shit! Nobody could do the characters you did on SNL, specially Frank Sinatra. The same goes for Troy McLure in the Simpsons. You'll be greatly missed...
It still makes me sad to know that such an amazing talent was taken away from us so suddenly. I always admired your ability to make people laugh without being too vulgar or gross. I did my senior year english project on your death. I learned so much. I realize what a great man you were. I will miss hearing your voice as all of your charactors on The Simpsons. I'll also miss your impressions of Charlton Heston, Frank Sinatra and Bill Clinton. You were the greatest man. I'm sure that you're in heaven making everyone up there laugh as hard as you did with everyone down here. Have a peaceful eternity. We are all thinking of you.
I have only been watching Newsradio for about a year on late night reruns and this is where I first found out about Phil Hartman and he soon became my favourite actor. I was deeply upset to find out about his death and I'd like to say goodbye to a true comedy genius
You were one of the funniest actors I know, my favourite movie you played in was "Sgt. Bilko." I can't picture "The Simpsons" without Troy McClure... at least cable shows so many of those old reruns of the show each day that people still do see Troy McClure. Rest In Peace.
Phil you were a very funny person. I still watch Saturday Night Live everyday on Comedy Central. I am glad there are reruns so I can still see you and Chris Farley on there. We love and miss you! May you rest in peace forever!
A few years ago I heard on the news Phil Hartman had died and I had to ask someone who he was. I only got to know him through reruns. In the last few years I discoved that had missed one of the greatest entertainers ever. His works have given me so much joy that I truly regret never knowing about him until after he died. The worst part is that Troy, Bill and Lionel can only be discovered for what they did and not what they will do. I guess as any truly great artist they are honored most after they can contribute no more. Bye Phil.

You may remember me from such memorial sites as John Belushi, Chris Farley and Bill Hicks. I just wish you didn't have to go. The UK misses you as well Phil. RIP
Phil- You were a really funny man and I miss you on News Radio and in movies. But as for all stars in heaven we will always have a part of you with us it's called videotape. Thanks for making me laugh and smile Phil. Your fan forever, Amber Manley
Happy Birthday, Phil, wherever your soul has travelled. I watched the rerun of SNL the other day where they eulogized you by playing that remarkable short film you made, in B/W, dream sequencing as a Prince Charming. And that is what you were, a prince of a man and charming, charming, charming. You are missed.
Phil Hartman was the greatest. It saddens me that I didn't discover this amazing talent until his work on NewsRadio, which is my favorite sitcom ever. I remember waiting for NewsRadio to be on every week, and how my family made fun of me because I couldn't miss an episode. I love Phil Hartman so much, and I am sad that I never got the chance to meet him. I have wanted to be a director for a large portion of my life, and I had planned on having Phil Hartman be the lead character in my very first theatrical debut. He was such a nice guy on all of the talkshows that he appeared on. I remember one show I watched, and Kathy Griffin was thanking Phil Hartman for her success, and I realized that he had to be the nicest person in Hollywood. I always wanted to meet him, and I hope that when I get to heaven he will be there waiting to meet me. It is my goal to make everyone that I know love Phil Hartman, for everything that he has ever done. Every time I see the episode of NewsRadio where he dies, I cry. It is the only tv show that I cry every time I see it. I only hope that someday I will be as pure and good to everyone I meet as Phil Hartman was. I love you Phil, wherever you are.
Phil was a great actor and comedian. The work he did on Saturday Night Live was just plain classic material... I especially enjoyed his work on the Simpsons. I will miss hearing his voice on the show a great deal. So Phil, wherever you are, thank you for the laughs, the smiles, and above all else, thanks for the memories. We'll miss you terribly - Rest In Peace.

The only TV show that has ever made me cry was the Newradio tribute to Phil Hartman. But, as I was crying, I was laughing. Phil Hartman could even make me laugh beyond the grave, and I must say what a great guy he was, and his comedic talent will always be remembered by me. As I am writing this the local WB station just yanked Newsradio from the lineup, and I never got around to taping any of the episodes, so I will not get that daily laugh I got during the best half an hour of each day. As a great man once said, "Salut." I'll miss you Phil.
Having the privilege of having experienced Phil Hartman's gift makes me want to believe there is a heaven. God bless you Phil, wherever you are. There will never, ever be another like you.
I am now in the process of taping every episode of NewsRadio, knowing that my local UPN station is about to yank it. I have at least four people in line to borrow the tapes and dub them. Phil Hartman was the most underrated cast member in SNL history. As Bill McNeal once said, "Good times, good times."

Dear Phil, The Simpsons just isn't the same without you. Your incredible talent will always be admired. Anytime I hear your voice on TV, I have to stop and watch.
I have watched the show since 1995 when I was in fifth grade and then I didn't know what I was listening to but he always made me laugh. His laughter will never die no matter the time or the day.
"____________" No words can describe Phil. I never knew him personally, and yet he felt like one of the closest people to me. I can not begin to image how the people who knew the man behind the laughter feel even to this day. It's almost the tragic clown story. The man everyone else wanted to be, because he had almost reached perfection and could make any person feel better about themsleves even if they were on the other side of the world. Yet just when he was perfect, like everything else in life he was stopped, because in this world perfection can not be achieved. Once you are perfect, you are taken to a place for perfect people. I only wish one day I can reach my personal perfection and meet up with Hartman and describe to him just what he is - "___________________" Unexplainable. God Bless You Phil R.I.P. Ya Pal Josh.
There's so much I want to say about this great man. I loved you on SNL, The Simpsons and Newsradio. Your impressions were so great, at first I never knew it was all the same guy! I remember coming home from school on that fateful Thursday and my sister telling me... and I cried for weeks on end. How could such a great talent be taken away from us like that? Wherever you are, we miss you and we'll always remember you for your great comedy. Love you! ~laura~

Dear Phil, I miss you a whole bunch. I wish you were still with us today, but I know you are looking down at us from the SNL heaven above. Love ya always and forever, Stacey.
I can't believe that Phil has been dead two years now and I only found out tonight. Two years I've been watching Newsradio and The Simpsons and I never knew. Rest in peace you magnificent bastard.
What a talent. It's not even appropriate to use exclamation points at the end of sentences when describing his work becuase it always left me in quiet awe... I know for a fact that he was Oscar-bound given the right serious role later in his career. His TV and movie appearances, voice overs etc. were first-rate and nothing less than genius. Phil, we miss you! Are you doing Sinatra for Sinatra in heaven?
I think you were the funniest person I had ever seen. I loved you. You touched my heart and soul. May you never be forgotten. Rest in PEACE. The world will miss you deeply.
It is hard to imagine that someone who was so visible in the media is now gone. If anything, Phil's passing does make you appreciate life a little more. Your life begins now. Don't waste another minute of it.
Hey buddy, how is it up there in the big sky of classic and great comedians? I never watched SNL, but never wanted to miss Newsradio. But now I wish I did, it would have been better if you were still alive. Now all I can do is sit back, watch you torment Dave on reruns of Newsradio. It hurts deeply, reading all of these other entries, but it makes me feel better that a lot more people loved you than I would ever have imagined. I love you big guy, and now, maybe you'll finally get some peace and rest in the big sky of tomorrow. Good bye my good friend, remember, you'll always be the champion in my life.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard about Phil. I loved the guy's work. Now I'm sixteen, so when Phil started I was roughly four. I didn't see him much on snl, but one skit in particular I remember was the mimic. It was just so hilarious. As I got older, I was able to see his hosting of snl, one of the funniest episodes I remember. I also saw some reruns and thought he was hilarious. Being a fan of comedy, somewhere where I really remember Phil was The Simpsons. His characters were all so strange. I also watched Newsradio. I still watch it in reruns. But Phil just made such an impression on me. When the news of Phil's death came, I was at my sister's house, babysitting my nieces. My oldest niece ran to me, asking me who Phil Hartman was. I explained to her, and asked why. She said that he'd been shot. I ran to the tv. I watched. A feeling of disbelief came over me. I thought it was so out of nowhere. So, to quote Chris Farley and Phil's final sketch together "Goodbye Phil, goodbye!" RIP Phil Hartman 1948-1998
"Hi, I'm Troy McClure, you might remember me better as Phil Hartman, the amazingly talented comedian who never let his great fans down!" That is something the great Phil Hartman would've wanted as an epitaph on his grave. It seems so strange to watch SNL or Simpsons or Newsradio reruns, and still feel Phil's great comedy make us laugh inside and out. But his death is the only thing about his life in stardom that does not make us laugh, yet fills us with great melancholy and sadness. I think everyone close to Phil is going through such a hard time, yet still I think they're some of the luckiest people in the world. That's because they were able to meet and work with a great man with much integrity and modesty, like Phil Hartman. Unfortunately, he's gone. I'm not a pious or religious guy, but I hope that there's a chance I can meet the character behind the laughs, to tell him how great he was. I will never forget you, Phil. But I, and millions of other people will miss you. ;-()
Phil Hartman was an amazing comedian. A great man who could impersonate anyone's voice (esp. Bill Clinton's). No one could match the dedication and tenacity he put in his work when doing a stand-up comedy act on SNL, a comical voice on "The Simpsons" (Lionel Hutz, Troy McClure), or being the amazing Bill McNeal on "Newsradio", which just wasn't the same without him. Hartman was the epitome of comedy and had so much spark and pep in him. I always hoped to meet the man behind the comedy, but I guess it's a little too late now. Why do the great ones always go first?! So long, Phil. Many will miss you, I know I will.

Big Phil Fan
Wow, it's no wonder Newsradio was cancelled. Not because it wasn't funny anymore, but since Phil passed away, it just isn't the same. "What fire water were you drinking chief?"
I just watched an old tape (SNL 25 years) and there was a heartful commemeration to Phil by several cast members, leading the introduction was Jon Lovitz in a broken voice. It was sweetly and earnestly sad. I think we write these guestbook notes to salve our own memories... anyway, I watched (again) the Schiller reel "Love is a Dream"... one of my favorite short sidebars ever on SNL... I'll be marrying soon and this mortal life / eternal love idea is perplexing and mystifying. Where can we be but in memories?

Phil has been an idol of mine since the first time I saw him on SNL. He stood out, always the funniest. I still can't believe that he's gone. Every day I watch him on tv whether it would be on reruns of SNL, Newsradio or Simpsons. I remember cracking up the very first time I saw Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer - I still laugh during the opening song. When Phil returned to host SNL, he locked himself in his dressing room until Tim reminded him that he was one of the best character impersonaters of all time. That is so true. I can't believe it's been over two years. I remember the exact moment when I heard he died. I was sitting at my kitchen table writing in my best friend's yearbook. I heard them mention Phil's name on the news. Then I heard that he had been shot. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I just cried. I called my best friend to tell her, and she didn't even beleive me until she heard it on the radio. I miss the way he made us laugh, no he makes us cry. I will always miss you Phil. And I will never forget you.
I just wanted to add to the long list of fans who miss Mr. Hartman and say that I hope there is an afterlife so we all may have a chance to meet the great man and thank him for many years of laughter.
I'm writing this out of a feeling of debt to the great Phil Hartman. He was never anything short of brilliant and absolutely hysterical. I personally believe that SNL started to nosedive once he left and The Simpsons has never been the same without the voice of Lionel Hutz.
Phil, what can I say. I really enjoyed your work and from everything I've read you were a pure class act, one that Hollywood sorely misses, as do your fans. I can only paraphrase what someone said previously, and that is that should I pass away, I hope to meet you personally to let you know the joy you give me, every day I watch Newsradio or an SNL rerun. Peace be with you always.

Dane Lynch
I remember the one time that Phil came back to host SNL, Tim Meadows told him he was one of the best character actors the show ever had. Wrong, Phil was the BEST character actor the show had. Phil made every skit funny and the world truly misses his comic genious.

I know I'm not the only one, so... Miss you big guy.
Phil was always an idol of mine, I am from his hometwon of Brantford, Ontario Canada and have always loved his characters on The Simpsons, SNL and NewsRadio. I have truly missed him and continue to miss his warm-hearted humour to this day.
God, I'll miss you. I'm not a religious person, but when I die I hope I'll be able to meet him. You could make anyone and everyone laugh. I didn't even find out who you were until a year after your death when I got into Newsradio and SNL reruns. I was in school the day you died. I'll miss you, Philip Edward Hartmann.
Every time I catch an old "Newsradio" or "SNL," I wind up laughing hysterically because of Phil. Then I cry, nearly as hysterically, when the show is over. I love you Mr. Keyrock... oh wait, its just Keyrock, right Phil?
To Jan Hooks, John Lovitz, and all of Phil's friends who miss him so much, my prayers are with you all. May the love of God give you peace in your hearts.
Well it's been over 2 yrs. Time flies... manic depression setting in again but hey what can I do. A "new" site is in the works, will let ya'll know once it's done. But for now, I'm out :)
I did see many of Phil's movies. I started to like him very much when I started watching Saturday Night Live because he made me laugh a lot, but when I heard on TV that he had been tragically murdered, I felt very bad. I really miss all his jokes and the things he used to do in his movies and programs, but now I know that he is in God's glory and that he is happy in heaven. Maybe when our time comes we will see him there again, I know, but not yet. Phil wherever you are I miss you a lot, and we are going to remember you always. Rest in peace Phil Hartman.
God bless you, Phil. I still love and miss you. Someday we will see each other again, and today I long for that day when we do. You will always be my favorite comedian forever... goodbye and rest in peace.
Well, today's the day. May 28, 1998, I still remember exactly where I was. I was cutting the lawn, walkman blaring the news under my earplugs, when they said Phil was dead. A chill went down my spine. I can't believe it's been 2 years since that day, and May 28th will forever be associated with sadness for me. Now, I'm gonna watch "Bill Moves On" several times until I cry. So long Phil, we're all gonna miss you.
